For over-the-counter product trials, subject recruitment via physicians is difficult or even impossible. Patients visit their doctor only when their underlying diseases worsen so much that – in most cases – prescription products become necessary and the OTC products are no longer indicated. Furthermore, most of the trials of OTC products require enrolment of patients at an early stage of the disease.
There is only one exception: children! Parents together with their children often see their paediatrician at an early disease stage and, also often, OTC products are prescribed.

With local advertisements in Thuringia, we successfully recruit otherwise healthy subjects suffering from acute or chronic diseases which are treated with OTC drugs. Our CPU enjoys a very good reputation and is well known in Erfurt, Weimar, Jena and the surrounding villages so that our advertisement campaigns come along with excellent success.
For example, we often carry out sore throat trials in a mono-centric setting within one winter season, even if the sample size needed amounts to 200 or even 300 subjects.
With a network of experienced paediatricians all over Germany, we realise studies with children from the neonate and toddler up to school age.
